Lighting boards

Lighting boards have been part of the ZIMO product range since 2022 - comparatively quite late. Especially in the first year, the variety of types has grown rapidly; expansions also occur in the following years, as is the case with ZIMO in all areas. ZIMO lighting boards are closely related to the ZIMO function decoders that have existed for a long time: the same family of micro-controllers, largely identical software and functionality, whereby on the occasion of the introduction of the lighting boards, the special effects developed for them were also adopted in the function decoders.

ZIMO lighting boards are high-quality lighting boards in every respect. However, one feature in particular sets them apart from the wide range of similar products: the so-called SECOND ADDRESS as an aid to train formation. This is typically set to the address of the traction unit in lighting boards and function decoders of a train. This makes it possible to switch the interior lighting of all these wagons, as well as the exterior lights of the tail or driving wagon, via the function keys of a single address (usually the locomotive address). To be able to use this comfortably, lighting boards and function decoders are equipped with special CV sets.

GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • DCC addresses 1 ... 10239, consist addresses 1 ...
  • MM addresses 1 ... 80, functions F0 ... F28)
  • Programming CVs in “Service Mode” (on the programming tracks) and in “Operational Mode” (with RailCom for feedback and acknowledgements)
  • Update-capable software: new software versions are imported with the help of the ZIMO decoder update device MXULF(A) from the USB stick or directly from the computer via ZSP ("ZIMO Sound Programmer") and MXULF or (planned) via MX10.

SECURITY:

  • Overcurrent protection for all outputs
  • Resilience: 24 V (alle Typen)

FUNCTIONS und FUNCTION OUTPUTS:

  • Full NMRA function mapping for F0 - F12, as well as ZIMO extensions (direction-dependent assignments, etc.)
  • Dimming, flashing, American (Mars, Ditch, Strobe, ...) and other light effects (soft start, brake light, flickering, autom. timeout, ...)
  • High beam/low beam switching via function key, one-sided light suppression, etc.
  • "New" light effects: Switching on outputs depending on travel/standstill, direction, speed, shunting button, random, etc.
  • "ZIMO Swiss Mapping" (Advanced Mapping) for complex lighting conditions depending on several function keys, with individual assignable dimming and flashing functions
  • "ZIMO input mapping", especially for the user to exchange the function keys without changing the actual configuration.

The SECOND ADDRESS

This special feature of ZIMO function decoders and lighting boards can only be explained on the basis of the typical application: 

  • in each car, the SECOND ADDRESS is programmed to the address of the locomotive,
  • in each individual coach, a different CV set is activated so that the interior lights are each assigned to different function keys:
    1. car: CV #8 = 102 (CV set 102 activated) causes in operation for the control via the SECOND address (i.e. locomotive address):
      F13 ➔ FOf (front light) or FOr (rear light) + FO1 | F14 ➔ entire interior lighting)
    2. car: CV #8 = 104 (CV-Set 104 activated) causes in operation for the control via the SECOND address (i.e. locomotive address):
      F15 ➔ FOf (front light) or FOr (rear light) + FO1 | F16 ➔ entire interior lighting), etc.
