The new large scale decoder MX69 start of delivery in November 2004 !

More info, prices, etc. here very soon.

The MX69 family of decoders come in 3 versions and will replace the MX66. The MX69
will offer many features that were long awaited and some of them no large-scale model
railroader wants to be without in the future. The most important new features (aside the already well known ones from its predecessor and other ZIMO decoders in general) will be:

  • 3A to 5A motor or total power respectively, depending on decoder type; suitable for
almost all large-scale locos. A special version is planned for even higher current demands.
  • Multi protocol capability (Motorola) to be added with a future software update.
  • Will be fully functional with LGB-MZS systems (accepts pulse chain commands for
function control, 14 speed steps). Suitable as replacement for on-board decoder with old or new serial port connector of original sound module!
  • 14 function outputs, divided into 3 groups for overload protection. One output
can be used to drive an auxiliary motor, in either direction.
  • Up to 4 servo outputs (operate them between two definable end stops or proportional
with the cabs speed regulator) for pantographs, decouplers, live steam engines………
  • Low voltage power supply (1.2V or 5.0V) for lights or other accessories including 5V for smaller servos (MX69V only).
  • SUSI interface with standardized socket for connecting sound modules or other features to come.
  • Accepts external capacitor module MXSPEIG (combined unit with condenser, battery and input from decoder) to prevent flickering lights and to drive over “dead” track sections.
  • Inputs for external function control (or decoder controlled shuttle operation) with reed
switches (or similar); requires a future software update.
  • Infrared LED can be added for sending the decoders identity and routing information to fixed mounted receivers (MX82); requires a future software update.
  • Ready for bi-directional communication; required software update available when NMRA standards exist.

Preview OF the MX690 – the future LARGE-SCALE ZIMO SOUND DECODER

The MX69 is already built with the necessary hardware for sound (layout, micro controller,
connections), except for certain expensive key elements that are not included yet (sound memory and amplifier). The future MX690 will therefore not just be physically identical to the MX69 but also in terms of performance (drivability, functions etc.).

Some of the more important planned sound features:

8 Mbit of memory (47 to 95 second of sound, depending on sound quality), 4 or more channels,
1.1W amplifier, min. 4ohm speaker, upload sound files at programming track, synchronize sound with optical, magnetic or Hall effect switch, internal condenser for uninterrupted sound on dirty track (externally expandable), extensive on-the-fly sound modification capabilities, adjustable load and acceleration dependent sound

Delivery of the MX690 is not yet known (September 2004). We might produce a preliminary series of sound decoders with complete hardware but limited software for sound play back only, which can be updated later with the full version software.
