ZIMO in 2010 . . The focus of our work in 2010 (as most of our users and prospective customers know) is the launch of the new system based on the new MX10 command station and the MX32 hand-held controller; for more details, see the December 2009 Newsletter. We are often asked why the production of the already high performance digital control system - MX1 and MX31 - have been "prematurely" abandoned, thus creating a supply gap for the time being. The answer is: the old ZIMO system products were created at the beginning of the millennium and in the era of the iPhone are no longer "state of the art". We believe that railway modellers should not accept old technology and therefore the potential of the latest advances in micro-technology need to be tapped. This approach separates ZIMO from the majority of the digital control suppliers, who still supply systems with concepts and designs from the 1980s, or with data bus uses transmission rates from the 1970s, or with displays using 7 segment characters, which were already common usage in the 1960s. The implementation of these "state of the art" solutions by ZIMO is not easy. The inner workings of the products are completely new, even though the basic shape of the controller has been retained, and at first glance, only the larger and full-colour screen is noticeable. The vast development work was not without setbacks and delays, but now the ZIMO teams has the technology under control. In the decoder "line of business" in 2010, the successful product lines of the MX620, MX630 decoders.... will continue with moderate software development, and the addition of new types (initially by extending the MX631 family). |

ZIMO remains faithful to the principle of manufacturing decoders to the highest quality possible, and does not try to save some money by leaving out the update capability, feedback, reliability, or the high electrical strength (as in the MX630), . Incidentally, new technology has a price, but can have a price- lowering effect, as in the case of the new MX10 base station, compared to the MX1. The emphasis remains on additional functionality and performance, rather than "Geiz ist geil" - a German marketing phrase for budget conscious customers, which translates roughly as - "cost-saving is cool"! And customer service? We try to provide answers to all questions, problems, repair requests in a timely and comprehensive manner. Although it does not always work exactly as planned, due to the lack of staff resources, you will never get from ZIMO the message "Complaints from private customers will no longer be answered due to personnel or administrative reasons", as stated by a well-known model railway manufacturer. 2010 01 06 |
