All Planned for OCTOBER 2007:
Accessory decoders
MX82
RailCom is a trademark of Lenz Elektronik GmbH. ZIMO MX82 accessory decoders (MX82E, MX82D and MX82V) have been fitted since the start of production in 2005 with RailCom hardware, which will now become operational with a new software update version 9. The same software has been installed during production since August 2007 but is also available at no charge from www.zimo.at for the purpose of updating already delivered decoders. A ZIMO update module MXDECUP is required for the update installation. An accessory decoder equipped with RailCom (bidirectional communication as per NMRA RP’s 9.3.1 and 9.3.2) can send information such as the actual turnout position (of both turnouts in case of the MX82V) to the command station: as left, right (or straight, diverging) or undefined (while in the process of switching). Turnout positions are detected by the decoder through turnout end switches. At present (July/August 2007), turnout feedback information cannot be evaluated or displayed (neither by ZIMO products or 3rd party products), although this situation will change no later than September 2007. The MX31ZL will be the first ZIMO product with a factory built-in „global RailCom detector“, with which RailCom capable loco decoder as well as accessory decoders can be read out: the successful or unsuccessful turnout actuation will be displayed on the cab; turnout changes by manual intervention will also be displayed. The new type: MX82W In addition to the well known types MX82E, MX82D and MX82V, a new type MX82W is now available: this is an „extended“ MX82V (25 x 11 x 4mm), which offers the following features - partly suggested by users: 4 accessories (turnouts, semaphores etc.) or 8 signal bulbs can be connected to one MX82W. The signal bulbs (or LEDs) can be part of one signal or several signals. The MX82W lowers the cost per turnout or signal dramatically (to C$15.06)! However, motor or EPL drives are not possible with this application. The MX82W can further be used to control two turnouts and the corresponding signal or indicator with the same address and sub-address; this operating mode can also be utilized for frog polarization via a relay. As a summary, the following accessory decoders are now available from ZIMO; of course all with RailCom and user updatable: MX82E: for 1 turnout (solenoid, motor, EPL), 2 uncouplers or 2 signal bulbs, additionally 4 connections for servos. MX82D: for 1 turnout (solenoid, motor, EPL), 2 uncouplers or 2 signal bulbs, sealed against splash water for outdoor appl. MX82V: for 2 turnouts (solenoid, motor, EPL), 4 uncouplers or 4 signal bulbs, additionally 4 connections for servos. MX82W: for 4 turnouts (solenoids), 8 uncouplers or 8 signal bulbs.
